We foster enriching experiences and opportunities that enhance awareness and mutual understanding among our clients, volunteers, staff, and community.
We provide citizenship services to high/low-income immigrants nationwide. The program also provides Citizenship, Literacy, and English as a Second Language class. The Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA) recognizes the program and has qualified BIA accredited staff.
Whereas in the criminal justice system, all defendants are provided with a free lawyer if they cannot afford one, in the immigration system, immigrants facing deportation (also known as “removal”) do not have the right to court-appointed counsel. As a result, the majority of immigrants in removal proceedings in Immigration Court are unrepresented. Lack of legal representation tends to have a profound impact on an immigrant’s ability to remain in the United States and immigrants with legal representation are much more likely to succeed in Immigration Court. In limited circumstances, PWLA is able to represent clients facing deportation in Immigration Court and help them identify and present all available defenses to their removal. Because of the enormous backlog in the immigration court system, these cases can take several years before they reach a final decision. It is very important to know this and make sure to make every possible arrangement for legal representation before such situations.
Safety and stability in the United States is our primary goal for the Refugee and Immigrant Services program. We provide a wide range of support services including assisting community members in adjusting their status to green card holders, and naturalizing to become citizens. Every year, Our program provides guaranteed immigration assistance to hundreds of residents and families who qualify. We provide support services and a robust referral program to provide wraparound case management that impacts every aspect of our community’s lives.
Our immigration Legal Counsel and Services provides low-cost immigration legal services to refugees, immigrants and humanitarian immigrants. Our Program provides affordable immigration services to all regardless of their race, religion, sex, or creed.
